I was the last person on the last day - there were technical problems and I started the exam 4 hours late (wasn't even sure I will be able to sit the exam until 12pm).Students are limited to a 10-question free sample test for testing any or their products. Last piece of advice, don't schedule your exam on the last available date and try not to be the last person in line to take the exam. If I had to chose one app, I would personally go with MKSAP (but knowing where you are compared to everyone else helps relieve a lot of the pressure).įor the benefit of everyone going to take the exam in coming years - ask your friends who just took the exam to add their MKSAP and UWORLD metrics with their final exam score onto this thread. Lastly, going through the exam it felt more akin to MKSAP than UWORLD and in fact there were questions that were exceptionally similar. Taking all these data together I would assume that as long as you are > 25th percentile on UWORLD you are likely to pass the ABIM IM boards (and probably even > 20th percentile). On their plot it seems like 371 corresponds to the lower 25th percentile (but with a 90%+ pass rate this is of course bizarre). The passing score on the exam is 371 out of 800 and the mean score is 498. As I was going through the test most of these questions seemed very simple ("gift" questions) and I felt really stupid for not reviewing these chapters on UWORLD/MKSAP (these are issues I never deal with on my day to day practice)

There seemed to be so many questions on these subjects. Of note, I knowingly did not review the 'small subjects' (neurology, GYN, psychiatry, PCP level orthopedics etc.) - much of the score that I had lost was on these questions. I therefore assume that 65% is the median for MKSAP users. My score on the ABIM correlated exactly with UWORLD and I was on the median of exam taker. On MKSAP scores were around 68% (they don't provide a reference to other users) On UWORLD my scores were around 58% which was on the median (this is a nice feature of UWORLD that allows you to position yourself against your peers). I was hoping my baseline knowledge after several years in clinical practice will be enough (I am not fresh out of residency as most of you). I had very limited time to study (less than a month) and had a busy clinic and research projects at the same time. I studies with both UWORLD and MSKAP apps. ABIM also provides data by programs so you can easily position yourselves and estimate your baseline chances of passing. So I am back to give some numbers to some of you - as I am sure you are all stressed.ĪBIM pass rate for first time takers are 91-93%. I have been looking for this answer while studying, with limited good data available. Related subs: /r/premed /r/medicalschool /r/medicine /r/physicians Studying for Step 3?
